Watch the 2020 FIRST Competition Challenge:
Infinite Recharge

Welcome to Week 3 of Build season!

—————————————————————–

The challenge for this year’s competition is called Infinite Recharge and here’s a brief explanation of how the competition works: two alliances work together to protect the FIRST City from asteroids. Alliances race to collect and score Power Cells in order to energize their shield generator for more protection. For more information about this year’s challenge, please watch the video above or click this link to read the game manual. Our entire team is confident in our Build team to design the most effective robot for this year’s challenge.

All subteams are persistently working their way through this challenge. As working models for the robot are coming in, our entire team is buzzing with excitement. It is quite nerve wracking to think about what the robot will look like and how well it will perform for competitions. Last week, the Build team made working drawings of almost all of the subsystems. This week, the Build team is making the parts in the shop. The Programming team is currently scouting. In addition, they are also working on coding for the limelight, arduino, vision tracking, and more!

Here is a student showing a single part of the Wheel of Fortune (WOF) which is the color system! This is the system that rotates the wheel and senses the color so it knows which color to stop on.

These students are working hard to make parts from working drawings in the shop!

While we have a few weeks to our first competition it’s not too late to help support our team. One way parents and/or guardians can be involved is by volunteering during these regional competitions. If you are not a parent/guardian, but are interested in helping or learning more about our team, feel free to come visit our team meetings, from January 13th to March 19th, held Monday and Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to around 3:30 p.m.  Please contact Coach Guderyon at margaret.guderyon@franklin.k12.wi.us prior to your visit.
